CHARLES N’Zogbia has issued a call to arms to his team-mates ahead of the nine ‘cup finals’ that will decide Wigan Athletic’s Premier League fate: We can do it!
Latics are currently rooted to the foot of the table going into the final quarter of the campaign after a disappointing run of one win in their last 11 matches.
But, unlike some other teams at the bottom, Latics have not been playing all that badly, with the feeling in the camp being that the bounce of the ball has not gone their way of late.
N’Zogbia is adamant the Latics glass remains half-full, and insists they have nothing to fear going into their run-in – which starts with the massive six-pointer against fellow strugglers Birmingham this weekend.
He told the Observer: “It will be a massive game on Saturday, and it’s vital we come away with the win.
“We have nine games left, nine cup finals, and we have to go into them thinking we can win them all.
“Our performances recently have been very good – we’ve just been unlucky not to have picked up more points.
“Look at the Manchester City game – we deserved at least a point. We created some great chances, and it was hardly a great goal that won it for us. Now we need the luck to go with us for a change, and hopefully we can go on a run.”
Latics have been away to La Manga for some warm-weather training and team bonding ahead of the climax to the campaign.
And N’Zogbia feels the trip has helped reinforce the team spirit that will hopefully play a key role in keeping Latics up.
“It was great to get away with the team, and get some good work done away from England,” he revealed.
“The trip helped bring the group together even more, and we’ll have to stick together for the last two months of the season.
“We are all confident we can stay up.”
