LEE Nicholls is back with Wigan Athletic after the completion of his loan spell at Bristol Rovers.
And Pirates boss Darrell Clarke has left the door open to possibly taking the 23-year-old goalkeeper back when the transfer window re-opens.
Nicholls has spent the last three months at the Memorial Stadium, playing 18 games and keeping five clean sheets.
He leaves the club in eighth spot in the League Two table, just one point adrift of a play-off berth.
And Clarke says Nicholls has overcome one or two shaky moments to prove to be a good signing for the club.
“Lee’s spell has been hit and miss, but the last three games I feel he has found some consistency and has got better,” said Clarke.
“He’s a ‘keeper of great potential. With ‘keepers, they certainly mature and get better as they get older.
“He’s worked very hard and done very well.
“And the pleasing thing for me is that when he has made an error he has bounced back and you need that as a footballer.
“Otherwise you won’t be lasting long in the game.
“Lee has that and he has the attributes to be a very good ‘keeper.”
When asked whether he would be interested in securing Nicholls on another loan deal in the New Year, Clarke told the Bristol Post: “Who knows? We will see.”
