NEW Latics loan capture from Chelsea, Patrick van Aanholt, is determined to grasp his opportunity at the DW Stadium with both hands.
Following earlier loan spells in the Championship with Coventry, Newcastle and Leicester, van Aanholt is now gunning for the ultimate test in the toughest league in the world with Latics.
The Dutchman said: “The manager called me personally before joining the club and told me how he’d love me to join to the club and offer me this opportunity.
“That was a big influence and I told that yes, I would really like to come and prove myself to see if I can compete regularly in the Premier League.
“Wigan Athletic are a good team and are going in the right direction so hopefully I can help the club progress and offer something different.
“I spoke with Andre Villas Boas as well and he said gaining experience of playing in the Premier League was important at this stage of my career and that it would help me develop a great deal for when I return to Chelsea.
“I want to try and emulate what Tom Cleverley did here last season, he took his opportunity and is now playing regular Premier League at Manchester United and if I can make the most of my season at Wigan Athletic, hopefully it will help me to achieve something similar.
“It feels great to have joined, everyone has welcomed me very well at the club and I’m delighted to be here.”
