JAMES Tavernier scored a wonder goal as Wigan Athletic went down 2-1 at Rochdale in their final friendly in the UK before flying out to Germany for the second part of their pre-season training camp.
Uwe Rosler’s side were behind as early as the sixth minute when Ian Henderson shrugged off Thomas Rogne and scooped the ball over Lee Nicholls
And it was 2-0 nine minutes before half-time when Bastien Hery played a lovely one-two with George Donnelly before firing past the Latics goalkeeper.
After going close through Grant Holt and Ryan Jennings, Latics managed to pull one back a minute before the break.
The impressive Tavernier was the man with the goal - a quite superb individual effort, with the shot from 30 yards crashing in off the crossbar.
And despite dominating the second half from start to finish, the visitors - who made a number of substitutions - couldn’t quite fashion an equaliser.
