UWE Rosler is determined to ensure Wigan Athletic will be the fittest team in the Championship this coming season.
The German is enjoying his first pre-season in charge at the DW, having arrived from Brentford midway through last term.
Latics are currently over in Germany for the first of two summer camps to ensure they’ll hit the ground running next term.
Rosler managed to guide Latics into the play-offs before they ran out of steam at the penultimate hurdle. With the luxury of a full pre-season this time round, Rosler is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Leicester and Burnley and gain automatic promotion.
And the platform for that, he says, will be laid over the coming weeks.
“The foundation of any success you achieve in the season is laid down in the summer,” Rosler told the Evening Post.
“As I’ve always said, if you’re not working 100 per cent in the summer you will pay the price somewhere down the line. The aim is for an optimum pre-season, putting the players through hard fitness work plus a lot of technical and tactical foundation.”
