UWE Rosler has vowed his players will not relax – even if they secure a play-off spot tonight with a win at Birmingham.
A win tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) would mathematically seal Latics a play-off semi-final face-off with either Derby or QPR, making this Saturday’s trip to Blackburn a fixture-filler for Wigan.
But Rosler is convinced the best way for his side to approach the play-offs is on the back of some good form.
“I’m not saying get us over the line because when you say that, sometimes people relax,” he said when asked about how the implications of a win tonight would affect his men.
“We need the next win, then we go to the next win, and the next, that is always our aim.
“It’s too early now to make conclusions because in football a lot of things can change in one game.”
Rosler believes his players have worked too hard since his arrival in December to claw their way into contention for promotion to risk their position, and believes defeats in the past week to Burnley and Blackpool will educate them.
“That is the lesson to be learned. We worked extremely hard and we all know we can’t rest,” he added.
“On one or two occasions this year, in the last couple of months we have learned a lesson out of this and it is one we can’t afford to repeat again.”
Cash turnstiles are in operation tonight at Birmingham. Fans can pay on the gate with adult admission costing £10, over 65-year-olds and students £5 and under-13s £1.
