A Wigan Athletic fanatic whose crazy online videos helped create one of the catchiest football chants of the season has been rewarded by a free season ticket.

Latics chairman David Sharpe has invited Sean Kennedy to attend every home game next season free of charge after he helped spread the catchy song “Will Grigg’s on Fire”.

Fans of clubs across the country have also been taken in by the chant, which is to the tune of Gala’s Free from Desire.

And even Sharpe himself tweeted a video from his holiday of friends singing along to it.

Sean, from Worsley Mesnes, started posted comedy videos of himself singing along to Latics chants earlier this season but when he recorded a catchy version of the Will Grigg one, it soon went viral.

Of course it became a firm favourite with Latics fans but videos even emerged of Barnsley players singing it after their final game of the season at Wigan the other week.

Sean has already been invited down to the training ground earlier this year to be presented a signed shirt by Yanic Wildschut.

But after becoming somewhat of a cult hero at the DW Stadium, Sharpe tweeted yesterday to say that 26-year-old Sean would be getting a free season ticket for the 2015-16 season in the Championship.

He wrote: “For inventing the best chant ever known to man, you’ve earned yourself a free season ticket for next season @KennoUTJ. Will Griggs on fire.”

Sean said: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard.

“I’d just been down to the shop and came back to a load of notifications on Facebook then I saw David Sharpe’s tweet. I was buzzing.

“It’s all gone daft to be honest. Everyone is singing it now.

“I had done a few videos before then I heard Newcastle fans singing it about Mitro and then a few of our fans were singing it about Grigg at Swindon so I did the video and it just took off.”

Sean was also full of praise and appreciation for Sharpe’s generous offer.

“He’s a legend,” added the East Stand season ticket holder.

“He is one of us, he’s one of the fans. The party after the last game of the season at Revolution was unbelievable.

“I got invited into the VIP section with Sharpe, Gary Caldwell and the players. They all love it, what a club.

“I’m just gutted the season is so far away now, I’m counting down to the fixtures coming out.”
