JAMES Tavernier admits he’ll gain a great deal of confidence from his cameo at Huddersfield in midweek.
The 22-year-old has yet to make his first league start for Latics, his five appearances to date including four shifts off the bench and a Capital Cup run-out at Burton.
But Tavernier made an encouraging impression during his 20 minutes back on home soil in Yorkshire, earning a name-check from Uwe Rosler in the post-match press conference.
And the ex-Newcastle man is hoping to have given the manager a gentle nudge ahead of Monday’s televised visit of Ipswich.
“We’ve got a big squad here, full of top-quality players, and this is what happens,” Tavernier told the Evening Post.
“Everyone’s fighting for their place, but you need that to keep everyone on their toes.
“It was nice to get out there in midweek, especially at Huddersfield.
