The world’s Mac’s oyster

LATICS midfielder James McCarthy could play for any club in the world, according to manager Roberto Martinez.

The 20-year-old has been one of Wigan’s key performers this season, scoring goals and showing he isn’t one to shy out of a good tackle.

McCarthy was a virtual unknown when Latics secured his signature in 2009 but now he is the name on everybody’s lips and a wanted man on the international front.

But none of that comes as any surprise to Martinez, who says there is more to come from his player.

“James McCarthy has the potential to play in any team in world football,” said Martinez.

“There aren’t many players around the world that you can say that about at that age.”
