Mark Warburton says he was “bemused” to be linked with the vacant Wigan Athletic job.
According to the Scottish Sun, the Rangers boss has surfaced on their radar to replace Gary Caldwell, who was sacked on Tuesday.
But asked about the speculation at a press conference today, Warburton said: “I’m bemused.
“Full respect to Wigan, but I’ve no idea where the rumours came from.”
By Tuesday lunchtime, Manchester United reserve boss Warren Joyce was the bookmakers’ favourite to take over ahead of Ryan Giggs and Karl Robinson.
Sharpe took to Twitter last night to praise Caldwell’s contribution to Latics and thank him for his efforts. Caldwell has not commented.
It is unclear whether the new manager will be in charge for Saturday’s trip to Cardiff.
