Warnock: We're the ones to take blame

Stephen Warnock admits the players have to shoulder '˜a large part of the blame' for Wigan Athletic's wretched campaign as they bid to avoid the relegation trapdoor for the second weekend in succession.

Only a miraculous series of results over the last two games - also including rivals Birmingham and Blackburn - can save Latics from an immediate return to League One.

And after a campaign that’s seen almost as many managers as home wins, Warnock acknowledges the common denominator has been the players out on the field.

“Yes of course,” he recognised. “There’s a lot of things that have gone on this season but, ultimately, the players are to blame.

“At the end of the day, we’re the ones who go out on the field and try to perform and do what’s asked of us. As a result we have to take a large part of the blame for what’s gone on.”

Latics must win each of their last two games to keep alive their faint survival hopes.

They would also be relying on Birmingham to finish with two losses, and Blackburn fail to win either of their last two.
