And 62% of respondents thought axing the Scot was the wrong call, as opposed to the 38% who believed chairman David Sharpe made the right call.
Caldwell guided Latics to the League One title last season, and promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking for the club.
But after a quarter of this campaign played, Latics had registered just two wins and sit second-bottom of the table.
Sharpe described sacking Caldwell as the ‘toughest decision’ he has had to make so far as chairman.
