JAMES McArthur nodded home a 94th-minute equaliser to spare Wigan’s blushes on opening day.

The Latics had deservedly led 1-0 at the break, through Callum McManaman’s goal just before the half-hour mark.

But the second half was a completely different story as the visitors took control and turned the game on its head.

Shaun Cummings drove past Scott Carson from 25 yards to level the scores with 19 minutes remaining.

And it looked as though they would secure the points when Sean Morrison nodded home six minutes later.

Given Nick Blackman had also twice hit the post - once with a header and once with a shot - not many inside the DW would have begrudged them their lead.

But credit Latics for showing their mettle, and they were rewarded when McArthur netted with virtually the last touch of the game.

Emyr Huws - one of four Wiganers making their debut - launched a long ball from halfway, with Oriol Riera flicking it into the area.

And McArthur reacted quickest to head past Adam Federici to the delight of the home supporters.
