WIGAN Athletic crashed to a third setback in a row on home soil as Tom Aldred’s first-half header proved decisive for Blackpool.
Hayden White had almost scored for the Seasiders in the opening exchanges, while Leon Barnett came close to heading into his own net nine minutes before the break.
Latics weren’t so lucky from David Ferguson’s resulting corner, with Aldred planting a free header past a helpless Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Despite the second-half introductions of Donervon Daniels, Michael Jacobs and Alex Revell, Latics were unable to restore parity.
Will Grigg fired just wide in the first half and then saw a second-half effort tipped over by the goalkeeper.
But other than that it was a frustrating afternoon for Gary Caldwell’s men, who slip to sixth in the League One standings - 10 points off the pace.
It was a triumphant return to the DW Stadium for Emmerson Boyce, who made a late cameo off the bench for a visiting side that were good value for their win.
