Wigan Athletic's James McClean celebrates the winning goal

JAMES McClean was singing in the rain after firing Latics into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The Irishman notched his goal for the club - his previous effort had come in the abandoned game at Sheffield Wednesday - to see off Tony Pulis’ charges.

Ben Watson had given Latics a half-time lead against his old club, before substitute Aaron Wilbraham equalised inside the final quarter.

But on a miserable afternoon, cold and wet, Latics just about did enough to earn a spot in the next round, a victory sealed when McClean raced through and slid the ball home.

Latics: Al Habsi; Perch, Boyce, Barnett, Beausejour; McArthur, Watson, Espinoza; McClean, McManaman, Maynard.

Subs: Nicholls, Crainey, Redmond, McCann (for McArthur, 79), Gomez, Powell (for Maynard, 74), Fortune (for McManaman, 74).

Palace: Speroni; Mariappa, McCarthy, Delaney, Parr; Bannan, Guedioura, O’Keefe, Puncheon; Chamakh, Jerome.

Subs: Campana, Gayle (for Chamakh, 66), Wilbraham (for Jerome, 66), Williams, Moxey (for Parr, 45), Price, Boateng.
