SHAUN Maloney and Jordi Gomez scored first-half goals as Latics recorded their first home victory of the season.
Forest had taken the lead on six minutes when Andy Reid’s free-kick was too good for Scott Carson.
But Latics were level within seven minutes after Marc-Antoine Fortune was upended inside the penalty area.
Maloney placed the ball on the spot, and fouind the back of the net via the goalkeeper’s right hand.
The winning goal came on the half-hour mark, Fortune’s strike being tipped on to the bar by Karl Darlow only for Gomez to pop the rebound in.
And although Forest dominated the second half, Latics held on for three priceless points.
