Wigan Athletic defender James Tavernier has joined League One side Bristol City on loan until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old has only featured three times under Malky Mackay and makes room in the squad as the boss looks for reinfocements in the January transfer window.
Tavernier will be available for promotion-chasing Bristol’s trip to Scunthorpe this weekend.
Mackay said: “James wants to be playing games every week but unfortunately we’ve not been able to guarantee him that here at the moment,” he said.
“Steve Cotterill at Bristol City wanted to take him to help their promotion bid and if he gets regular football at a good level it will help James’s progression, which will be in the long term benefit of both James himself and Wigan Athletic.”
