Wigan Amateur League
AUTUS Web Design Division Three title-chasers Foundry Reserves worked hard to get their pitch fit for the visit of Billinge Community, and were rewarded when ref Duncan Calland declared ‘game on’.
They were then delighted with the result as they gained a hard-earned 3-1 victory.
Foundry started well and were soon a goal up. After a scramble in the Community penalty area Paul Burke knocked the ball home from close range.
The home side, with Liam Sykes in brilliant form, could not find a way through a stout Billinge defence and as half time beckoned the visitors scored when Aj Admad levelled matters with a fierce shot.
The second half was pretty even with Sykes and his opposite number Lee Grundy both missing good chances, but on 82 minutes Sykes’ luck changed as he scored the goal of what proved to be the only game of the day.
Billinge hit back strongly, committing men forward, but they were soon caught on the break and Dwayne Heggarty had no trouble in making it 3-1.
The excellent Burke was named man of the match.
