Moorcroft spoke of his pride to have ran out as the victor in his 9th career bout.

“I’m so happy to have achieved this feat,” he said.

“It’s a really proud moment for me, my family and everyone at Blundell’s Boxing Gym. As a team, as a family, and as Blundell’s Boxing we march on as 9-0.

“We’ve worked so hard for this victory, and I’m so glad that all the gruelling training and difficult sessions have paid dividends. Christmas has officially started in my house- and I’m already excited to celebrate the win and a great 2018.

“I fought one of the most renowned toughest men in boxing and he sure lived up to his name. I have so much respect to my opponent who never stopped and was great throughout.

“He took my first ever round off in nine fights, and I think the score means we drew one as well. I’m not going to anything away from Warburton, he’s an absolutely fantastic fighter.

“I went over to him at the end and said I take my hat off to him, and that he really lives up to his reputation. It was a really tough fight and I applaud Willy for coming for a war.”

Moorcroft described 2018 as a “perfect year” for him given that he won five out of five bouts and claimed his first career title.

“It’s been incredible,” he said.

“We’ve had five good victories and faced some very talented opposition.

“I’ve felt like I’ve grown as a boxer over the last 12 months and I cannot thank my coaches Lee and Luke Blundell enough.

“I’ve had some unforgettable nights this year and created memories that will last a lifetime for me and my family, and that’s all I can possibly wish for.

“My English Challenge belt win against Nathan Hardy was the standout moment for me as the feeling that I received when I lifted my title was indescribable.

“It was a dream come true- and one of many dreams that became a reality in 2018. If 2019 is anywhere near as good as 2018, we’re in for a treat!”

In terms of setting his targets for the new year, Hindley’s Moorcroft admitted a central area title is at the top of his wish-list.

“I’d love to win a few more titles in 2019.

“The title victory in June has given me the taste for more. I’d really like to win a central area title next year as I believe that is the next step of my career for me.

“A lot of globally known boxers have won central area titles before going onto greatness, so I can only hope that

I’ll be next in line if I can win one.

“I’m going to be doing everything I can to achieve my goals- I’ve never wanted anything as much as this in my entire life, and I will not stop or rest until my targets have been ticked off.”

The Wiganer is expected to return to action in 2019 on Saturday, March 9, although the VIP Boxing show has yet to be officially confirmed.
