Clubs given chance to train like the pros

TEAMS from all sports are being offered fitness professional quality fitness programmes from the people behind Warrior Workouts.

Former Wigan full-back Steve Hampson and former Warriors strength and conditioning coach Mick Turner have been running Warrior Workouts circuit training sessions for over a year, and having already worked successfully with a number of clubs, are welcoming more to make use of programmes tailored to suit more teams.

Hour long sessions at Central Park on Montrose Avenue will cost £3.50 per participant, and will be specific to each team’s age and fitness levels, with athletes from junior to open age being catered for.

Mick said: “We can speak to coaches and tailor it to their needs.

“I know, because of our backgrounds, we are associated with rugby league but we are also looking at other sports – football, netball teams – whether in-season or the off-season.”

Teams from Wigan St Pat’s, Wigan Rugby Union, Orrell St James’ and Chorley Panthers have already taken part, with sessions focusing on areas such as flexibility and mobility, speed, power, strength and fitness.

Mick has worked at Warrington and Wolves and Wigan Warriors, where he worked alongside director of performance Mark Bitcon.

Bitcon said: “For a player at any level, pre-season is a time to develop and enhance skill and fitness levels.

“If you follow the right plan it can drastically improve your chances of being at your best throughout the forthcoming year.

“Most athletes across all sports use a variety of different methods to enhance their capabilities during this crucial pre-season period, being smart and effective makes them better.”

Initially, sessions are being offered on Saturday mornings, though alternative days and times can be arranged with Steve and Mick.

As well as guiding people in the gym, Steve and Mick are also on hand to offer individuals and coaches advice on basic nutrition for junior athletes to advanced nutrition in the form of practical workshops, feedback and written diet plans.

Individuals can also take advantage of Warrior Workout fitness sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.30-7.30pm and Saturday mornings from 8-9am at Central Park, Montrose Avenue, Wigan.

There are no membership or sign up fees and entrance is £3.50 per session. The sessions are open to anyone over the age of 15 and are suitable for all fitness levels.
