ROBIN Park has been playing host to more than 100 darts hopefuls.
The 2011 PDC ProTour came to town where 119 players featured in matches over the weekend.
This year has seen the introduction of the Tour Card system with players packing into Robin Park for the Qualifying School session.
Each day hosted an individual knockout session where players, including Wigan star Tony Blundell, aimed for a spot on the ProTour.
Magnus Caris, Devon Petersen, Preston Ridd, Dietmar Burger and Michael Mansell all recently competed in the World Championships while Hull youngster Reece Robinson competed in the Rileys Darts Zones UK Open last June.
The long list of entrants also includes 2010 Lakeside Championship runner-up Dave Chisnall.
The players started arriving at 10am on Friday and in true darts fashion the lager was going down well early doors. Play got underway at noon with all games being competed in the best of 11 legs.
The four semi finalists from each day’s play were all awarded a Tour Card and didn’t need to compete for the rest of the tournament.
Robin Park is no stranger to big darts events with many of the game’s top players plying their trade at the sports arena. Tony’s son, Louis Blundell once beat Premier League star James Wade.
