MMA fighter Mike Grundy maintained his reputation as a fearsome submission specialist at his latest fight last week.

The Wiganer, a Commonwealth Games bronze medalist for wrestling, caught Spanish opponent Daniel Vasquez in a first-round head and arm choke, winning his bout with the clock barely having started to tick down at Bolton’s Macron Stadium Arena last Friday.

And Team Kaobon fighter Grundy already has his sights set on his next fight, where he will headline against Frenchman Fouad Mesdari.

The event is dubbed Shinobi War 9: Winter Warfare, and takes place at the Olympia, Liverpool, on November 26.

“I wanted a quick win because I’ve got another fight coming up soon,” Grundy said.

“I’ll be fighting in the main event, it’s a great show with a lot of work going into the promotion.”

The result puts featherweight Grundy’s professional fight record at 7-1, and he has made no secret of his hopes an 8-1 record at the end of the year may help him reach his ultimate goal of fighting in the UFC.

Grundy also thanked his sponsors: Optimum Sports, Simpson Heald Pearson Solicitors, Qualitech, Plumbers North West, Summit Physio, Paul Russell, Elite Fitness Factory, Wigan and Leigh Wrestling and SJB Training and Performance.

At the same event, Leigh fighter Andrew Clamp has plenty to celebrate after his latest fight.

The light-heavyweight won his ICE FC bout against French native in Bakari el Anwar.

And the result in the headline fight, via a first-round head and arm choke submission, ensured Clamp retained the ICE FC light-heavyweight belt he won back in August.
