A ST John Rigby College student is celebrating scooping a double medal success at the Four Nations ParaBadminton Championships

Katie O’Neill, who studies BTEC Health and Social Care brought home a Gold and Silver medal from the Championships held in Motherwell.

A badminton player since the age of 14, O’Neill was representing her country at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre for the fourth time.

She said: “I won the Gold for half court singles and the silver for mixed doubles and even filled in for the men’s rounds because of injuries.”

Christine Wall, Learning Mentor at St John Rigby College was extremely proud of O’Neill’s success and said: “Katie is an absolute inspiration and always gets involved where she can in college events.”

O’Neill next competes in a ParaBadminton Championships in May, and will be supported by everyone at St John Rigby.
