ORRELL RUFC are set to have a new home almost a decade after the club left Edge Hall Road.

The club has linked-up with Winstanley Park CC have to develop a new Community Sports club.

Since leaving Edge Hall Road in 2007, Orrell have played out of St John Rigby College, but will have a permanent base after signing a 99-year leases on a 13 acre site, situated next to Winstanley College.

Both Orrell and Winstanley Park hope the venue will provide a permanent home for both organisations and an opportunity to boost their thriving junior sections.

Tnew location will also be available to other community groups, with a particular focus on providing a sporting outlet for children, and will feature two rugby pitches and a cricket pitch with club house and changing rooms.

For Winstanley CC, the move will see them vacate their current ground where they have been since 1878.

A full planning application is currently being prepared supported by local architects and building consultants NPS Ltd.

The implementation plan is to phase the development as funds allow, and begins with the preparation and seeding of the land, allowing the pitches to be used as soon as possible.

The clubs have invested a significant amount into the project, designed to be built in three phases, and are looking to raise considerably larger sums to enable its completion.

There will be a more formal launch of the clubs’ fundraising plans over the next few months.
