A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of Wigan Athletic legend Lee McCulloch after he failed to show for a court appearance in his native Scotland.
McCulloch, who played for Latics between 2001-2007 and was a key figure in the team that reached the Premier League, was expected at Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace Court on Monday to face a speeding charge.
The 37-year-old, who has just been released by Rangers after eight seasons at Ibrox, is alleged to have been driving at 81mph in a 60mph zone on the M8 motorway.
McCulloch joined Latics from Motherwell in 2001 for £700,000 and, under the watchful eye of Paul Jewell, became a regular in the Scotland national side.
He scored 46 goals in 241 appearance for Latics before returning to Scotland after Rangers had a bid of £2.25million accepted by then-boss Chris Hutchings.
His most valuable contribution at Wigan was the opening goal in the 3-1 victory over Reading in May 2005 that clinched promotion to the top flight.
