DIVISION One title favourites Orrell met a Wigan Rovers side who have been playing well of late, but in a largely one-sided contest Orrell ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.
The home side led after only ten minutes when Steve Hickling fired home, and as half time approached Ian Ward headed home Hickling’s long throw to make it 2-0.
It was soon 3-0 when Brian Shuker poked the ball home following an almighty scramble.
Rovers attacked in snatches but couldn’t find a way through, and then in the dying minutes substitute Sam Rimmer lobbed the keeper for the fourth goal.
Orrell’s cause was done a great favour by Leigh Phoenix who beat leaders Atherton Royal 5-2.
Shevington Res gained a useful point in a 2-2 draw at AFC Tyldesley, while Foundry outpointed St Jude’s 3-2. Farnworth Town thrashed Goose Green United 7-2 with Grant Dean collecting four.
Garswood Trophies Premier Division leaders Winstanley St Aidan’s crashed 4-3 at home to a hard-working Hindley Town side. Town went ahead through Dave Moore but Martin Thomas soon levelled, Chris Hewitt then made it 2-1 in Town’s favour and before the break Hewitt added his second to make it 3-1. Town were then awarded a penalty which Craig Naylor converted.
It looked all over until Thomas and Dave Quigley added further goals, but they were too little too late to save the Saints.
Shevington and Digmoor drew 2-2, while goals from Luke Hughes and John Anderson gave Bickerstaffe a much-needed win against Downall Green United.
Pemberton returned to winning ways with a 3-1 success at Gidlow Athletic. Matt Benson put Gidlow in front but goals from Andy Reid, James Woodcock and old hand Billy King gave Pemberton a much- needed victory.
Standish St Wilfs helped their plight with a 3-0 win over Ince.
Division Two pace-setters Belair just got the better of Bickerstaffe Res 1-0 with Tom Whelan’s goal doing the trick. Aspull kept up their title push with an excellent 3-1 win over rivals Leigh Legion.
Boars Head went goal crazy at Farnworth Res, winning 7-0, while Hindley Town Res and Orrell Res shared the spoils 3-3.
Scott Robinson scored two and made three as Cherrybrook beat Atherton Hag Fold 5-2.
Springfield got a long overdue win, 4-2 at bottom club Wigan Rovers Res, while Leigh Rangers Res beat Up Holland 5-4 in a goal feast with Chad Drake claiming a hat-trick for the home side.
Autus Web Design’s top game saw second-played Foundry Res lose 1-0 at Wigan Celtic with Billy Nixon’s 71st minute penalty proving to be the winner.
Boars Head beat Sporting Leigh 4-2 with Martin Foster netting twice.
AH Leisure slammed Gidlow Athletic Res 4-0 with Ant Orrell, Cameron Loynd, Tom Magraw and Pete Carson getting the goals.
Ince Central Res edged out Ashton Villa 2-1 with goals from veteran Andy Moseley and young Matthew Hoy, while in the Whitehead Cup Newburgh Harrock United came from behind to beat AFC Scholes 2-1.
