Lyon roars to victory

AFTER a defeat and a draw in his previous two outings, Craig Lyon got back on track on Saturday night with a convincing points victory against tough Ukrainian Yuriy Voronin.

Fighting over six rounds, former Wigan ABC star Lyon took the referee’s decision 59 points to 55 after a gruelling encounter at the Premier Suite at Bolton Wanderers’ Reebok Stadium.

Thirty-year-old Lyon now boasts a professional record of 13 wins and one draw from 15 fights, and Saturday’s positive outcome sets him up nicely for the next big challenge – an English bantamweight title defence against Martin Ward on March 31.

On that night Lyon will top the bill at the Sutton Sports Centre in St Helens against Newcastle southpaw Ward, a man who himself has only been beaten once in a 14-fight pro career to date.

The St Helens card will be the latest broadcast live on You Tube by Hatton TV and expects to pull in tens of thousands of fans from around the globe.

Boxing starts at 7pm tickets are priced at £30 general admission and £55 ringside.

For tickets call 01925 755 222, Ticketmaster on 0844 847 2500, Ticketline on 0844 888 9991, or go online at: www.hattonboxing.com.
