LIAM Farrell has been added to Wigan’s mounting injury list.
The England World Cup forward was a casualty of Friday’s bruising 28-12 defeat at Leeds, which ended the champions’ eight-game winning streak.
He is the seventh front-line player currently ruled out through injury.
Farrell twisted his ankle and, while not serious, it is expected to sideline him for a short spell.
Shaun Wane said should be able to get a more detailed time-frame this week, once swelling has gone down.
But he is out of Friday’s trip to Hull FC and is already a big doubt for the following week’s showdown with Leeds at the Manchester Magic event.
Wane said: “We have a few injuries right now, but it doesn’t worry me - I’m excited about it.
“It gives other players a chance to show what they can do, and then when the injured players return the squad will be in a stronger position.”
Captain Sean O’Loughlin, props Eddy Pettybourne and Ben Flower, backs Iain Thornley and Josh Charnley and forward Greg Burke are also recovering from injuries.
Of those, Pettybourne is expected to return first, rated as “an outside chance” for Friday, while O’Loughlin is not too far away from recovering from a hamstring problem suffered in training last Thursday.
Jack Hughes is expected to take Farrell’s place against Hull FC, with John Bateman and Tony Clubb completing the back three in the pack.
Wane added: “Injuries are a part of our game, which is why we have big squads. We’re not moaning about it - we’ll prepare well for Hull on Friday and I’ll put out a team which is good enough to do a job.”
Meanwhile, Sam Hopkins has extended his loan arrangement with Leigh. The off-season recruit has yet to play a competitive match since signing from the Centurions.
