JOE Burgess is keeping his feet on the ground despite being promoted to Wigan’s first-choice line-up.
The teenager has made the left-wing role his own following a string of eye-catching performances this season.
He has scored tries in all three competitive matches – including a scorcher in a 46-24 win against Wakefield last Sunday – to complement the 10 touchdowns he poached in three friendlies.
But the academy-product is taking nothing for granted and says he still feels like he has to fight for his spot.
“It’s still everyone competing for the positions, I don’t feel like (it’s mine),” he said.
“No-one here has a spot nailed down. If you have an off game you’ll be dropped, that’s how I’m taking it.”
Shaun Wane confirmed Burgess was now at the top of the pecking order for the left-wing role vacated by Pat Richards.
“He’s still got areas to improve but I like him,” he said.
