SHAUN Wane has laid down a challenge to his fringe players, warning them time is running out if they want to be involved in the play-offs.
The capture of Joel Tomkins and the return to fitness of Blake Green , Eddy Pettybourne and Mike McIlorum has intensified competition for places within the squad.
Props Gil Dudson, Jordan James and John Bateman missed out in Wigan’s last game, a 14-14 draw at Hull KR, while some of those who did feature have had spells out of the team this season.
With just three games to go before the play-offs begin, Wane says he won’t accept sub-standard performances.
He is expected to field a strong line-up at Widnes on Friday as the second-placed Warriors attempt to keep ahead of the chasing pack.
He said: “If I’m picking my team for the big games I need them to be ready to go.”
