WIGAN Warriors today confirmed prop Stuart Fielden will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season.
It comes on the same day that the Evening Post revealed the Warriors are on the verge of signing Hull KR’s Scott Taylor.
Fielden - who who joined Wigan in 2006 in a world-record transfer - has made 140 appearances for the club but only two in the last two years, due to a nightmare run of injuries.
Coach Shaun Wane said: “It was a very difficult decision to make not to offer Stuart a further contract. He has been a wonderful player and a superb role model. His commitment and attitude to training and getting back to fitness after two terrible years is a real credit to him.
“Now fully fit, Stuart is at the stage of his career where he is looking for a regular place in the side and with stiff competition for places we are unable to guarantee that here at Wigan. We feel sure that a move elsewhere would be in his best interest. We thank Stuart for his superb service and wish him all the best for the future.”
