NEW-boy Anthony Gelling has thanked his Wigan team-mates for helping him feel right at home.
The 21-year-old says he has been blown away by the whole experience since he landed at the club.
Though the Evening Post revealed his arrival last month, the Warriors kept his capture on a two-year-deal under wraps until the day he had jetted out with the rest of the squad to a Florida training camp.
He spent two weeks with his new team-mates before the festive break – he spent Christmas with the Leuluais, Thomas and younger brother Macgraff – and is now preparing to get back to the hard work on January 2.
Gelling said: “The pressure is on everyone to perform, there’s a real intensity to everything, but at the same time everyone is really helpful.
“George Carmont has been terrific with me since I got here and the other centre, Darrell (Goulding), is really helpful as well.
“I didn’t know any of them before I got here.
“The only person I knew was Tommy’s brother, Macgraff (who plays at Widnes), but all the boys have been great with me.
“I’m just looking forward to getting back in training again.
“I had heard of Wigan before I got here, but I didn’t realise quite how big they were and how professional they are.
“The way they handle everything is really professional, they are the best with everything.”
Shaun Wane moved for Gelling to add depth to the centre spots following Joel Tomkins’ exit to rugby union.
He spent last season with the Auckland Vulcans, a lower-league outfit, and combined his playing commitments with working as a labourer.
Now happy to be training full-time, he is excited at the prospect of taking to the field with the Warriors.
“I’ve seen a lot of the boys play on TV and to get the chance to line-up with them is really exciting,” he said.
“I’ve seen Finchy play for New South Wales in State of Origin and Tommy for the Kiwis, so to get the chance to play with them is unreal.
“I’ve not seen too much of the English boys play but I’ve seen them in training and they look great.
“Sam Tomkins is that fast – I can’t wait to run off him!”
