NEW recruit Willie Isa says his burning desire to win silverware persuaded him to join Wigan.

He turned down more lucrative offers elsewhere to sign a two-year deal with the club, starting from next season.

There’s only one reason I’m going to Wigan and that’s to win trophies

“When Wigan came along, I didn’t hesitate,” he told the Evening Post.

“Once I knew they were interested, I came down and met Shaun Wane and Kris Radlinski, and it was all agreed pretty quickly.

“It spoke for itself, with the history of the club and the set-up they have.

“There’s only one reason I’m going to Wigan and that’s to win trophies.

“I want to do well and make the fans proud. They will expect a lot of me but I expect a lot of myself.”

A Samoan international, Isa cut his teeth in the NRL with Penrith and Melbourne before moving to Super League with Castleford.

He has spent the last four seasons at Widnes, where he caught Shaun Wane’s eye with some powerful performances.

He is a big, pacey player who can play in a number of positions,” said Wane.

“I think he will really suit our style and the Wigan fans will really warm to him.”

Isa has played in the centres but feels more at home in the pack, where he will provide fierce competition for places.

“I prefer playing in the middle, as long as I’m involved I’m happy,” he said. “I work hard, and I want to prove myself to my new team-mates and get their respect, and that starts on day one of pre-season.”

The 26-year-old has ruled out a return home to Australia to ensure he has fully recovered from a knee injury in time for the start of pre-season.

“I’m three weeks away from being fully fit, when I can run again, and I’m going make sure I’m good for day one - that’s my focus,” he said. Isa is Wigan’s second signing for 2016, along with full-back Sam Tomkins. Forward Greg Burke is also returning from a season on loan at Hull KR. Winger Joe Burgess, full-back Matty Bowen and on-loan forward Larne Patrick are leaving, while Jack Hughes and Logan Tomkins – on loan at Huddersfield and Salford respectively – are also departing.

WARRIORS have named an unchanged 19-man squad for tomorrow’s play-offs semi-final against Huddersfield.
