A WIGAN side missing EIGHT front-line players underlined their trophy-winning credentials with a 50-8 hammering of champions Leeds.
Josh Charnley netted 18 points with seven goals and a try which extends his tally to 21 at the top of the try-scoring charts.
Thomas Leuluai also bagged two tries in the mauling at Headingley, which sent out a loud and ominous warning to the rest of Super League.
The victory was Wigan’s 11th in succession and extended their lead at the top of the table.
Full-back Sam Tomkins was in sensational form as Wigan - watched by Rio Ferdinand in the 16,000-plus crowd - built up a 26-4 lead at the break.
Jeff Lima, Liam Farrell, Sean O’Loughlin and George Carmont scored in the first-half - in addition to Leuluai’s first - with Charnley, Leuluai, Anthony Gelling and Brett Finch crossing after the break.
The victory was achieved without banned trio Gareth Hock, Chris Tuson and Lee Mossop, and injured players Stuart Fielden, Paul Prescott, Ben Flower, Paul Prescott and Harrison Hansen.
Wigan’s next game is at Catalan next weekend.
