MIKE McIlorum has cranked up the competition within the Warriors squad, Shaun Wane has revealed.
The coach decided against putting a replacement hooker on the bench for their last match, a classy 22-8 win in the opening play-offs match in Huddersfield.
And after watching the influential McIlorum motor through the full 80 minutes, he admits his selection decisions have taken on a new dimension.
Previously, Wane has favoured selecting Logan Tomkins or Sam Powell on the bench to give his regular No.9 a rest.
But now, after McIlorum’s tireless last outing, those two players have now been thrown into the mix with the rest of the forwards as they battle for places in the squad.
Wane admitted: “Micky’s performance was very impressive, and it’s really given me another selection headache, which is good to have.
“It’s given me an extra option. I felt he outclassed the player (Huddersfield’s Shaun Lunt) who made it into the Super League Dreamteam ahead of him.”
