'˜No excuses' from Wane as Williams ruled out of England Test

The Tigers climbed top of the table with their biggest ever Super League win against the Warriors.

Wane lost three players to injury during the game - including Williams, who has been ruled out of England’s Test against Samoa next weekend with a knee injury.

Ben Flower (suspected snapped Achilles) and Anthony Gelling (knee) also limped off for Wigan, who had two players sinbinned during the one-sided contest.

But Wane said: “That was not acceptable. They were too good for us, they’re the best team, they’re enjoying themselves - fair play to them.

“Wigan teams don’t get pumped like that... the players are hurting. There are no excuses about personnel, we got absolutely schooled.”

Williams will not be able to fly out to Sydney tomorrow. He was nursing a knee problem as he left the action at half-time, and didn’t return in the second-half.

Wigan’s doctor Chris Brooks, who is also involved with the national squad, said: “We had to take George off the field because it was clear he was struggling with his knee towards the end of the first half.

“As he tried to run he was okay in terms of getting his speed up but, when he tried to decelerate, that’s when he was having the pain in his knee.

“We wondered if he had caught the edge of his cartilage. We examined him at half-time and the structure of his knee is fine, his ligaments seem fine, but unfortunately he won’t be able to represent England next week which is very disappointing because he’s very proud of his involvement in the England team.”

Captain Sean O’Loughlin, also in the England squad, is fine to travel along with Castleford trio Luke Gale, Mike McMeeken and Zak Hardaker.

Sam Powell scored Wigan’s only try as Wigan trailed 26-4 at half-time. Frank-Paul Nuuasala and Morgan Escare were sinbinned.

“We’re a proud club.... they rub your nose in it, big time, and it hurts,” said Wane. “We win the game and we go top, so we’re not far off.

“We’ll put some kids in against Salford (next Friday) and show some fire.”

Castleford coach Daryl Powell added: “I didn’t expect us to get away from Wigan like that, but we were right on the money.

“It was tough for them, losing a couple of blokes. Our execution was exceptional.”
