WIGAN won’t be raising a glass to celebrate the league leaders’ shield if they clinch the silverware this weekend.
Shaun Wane revealed yesterday there is a booze-ban in place which won’t be lifted until after their season is finished.
The coach has made no secret of the fact he is desperate to finish the regular campaign on top of the ladder, which Wigan – three points clear of Warrington – will achieve if they are victorious at Hull KR on Sunday.
Asked would he allow players to celebrate the success, Wane said: “No, it’s a short turnaround until the St Helens game on the Friday, and then the play-offs – there’s no alcohol until after the Grand Final now.
“It’s not a big deal, we want to give ourselves the best chance and it’s a small sacrifice to make.” Wigan’s 19-man squad will be revealed today with Kiwi Thomas Leuluai expected to be included.
Wane said prop Stuart Fielden – out for more than 18 months – had “a remote chance” of figuring, following his return in an Under-20s match two weeks ago.
Travelling fans hoping to see a glimpse of Blake Green may be disappointed – the Australian stand-off is not expected to figure for the Robins owing to injury.
It’s understood Green has signed a deal to join Wigan next season, though there has been no official confirmation by either club.
