Powell will be a keen spectator

NEW recruit Andy Powell will get a sneak preview of what to expect when he watches the Warriors in action tonight.

Wigan face Hull FC aiming to tighten their grip at the top of the Super League ladder.

They travelled over to Humberside last night with Powell in tow, ahead of his move to the club next month. The Welsh rugby union No.8 still has one match to play for Sale next weekend before he can focus on league.

But the 31-year-old is already getting a feel for his new challenge, and tonight will experience the inner-workings of the Warriors outfit as they tackle a resurgent Black and Whites outfit.

Hull FC’s form has picked up in the last few weeks, having won their past four matches in both competitions.

And coach Shaun Wane said: “We’ve been working on defence all week because we know Hull FC are a side capable of scoring points.

“They’ve won their last few matches, and performed really well – their form this month has been superb.

“I rate a lot of their players, and they still have some class players to come back in.”

Marquee recruit Gareth Ellis has yet to play for his new side but is closing in on a return to action.

Wane admits Wigan tried to recruit the England Test forward when he returned from the NRL in the winter. “We’re always interested in top class players, and he is certainly one of those,” he said.

“But I’m happy with what I’ve got.”

Liam Farrell, Blake Green and Mike McIlorum will return to the side which beat Leigh 60-10 last week.
