RYAN ‘Rocky’ Hampshire could be a ideal future replacement for Sam Tomkins according to Shaun Wane.
The 18-year-old fullback filled in the slot in the 22-16 defeat to St Helens on Monday and was the Evening Post’s star man in a feisty performance.
With son of Jason Robinson Lewis Tierney and Hampshire in competition for the place, Wane thinks the Warriors will have another world class fullback.
“He’s one for the future without a doubt and he can play,” said Wane.
“He was outstanding against Saints and that will have done him the world of good – he’s a good kid.
“I thought he handled it really well and the skill he showed for Josh Charnley’s try was great.”
And Wane is also happy with how Hampshire conducts himself off the field.
“He’s a lovely kid to deal with, he understands what we’re all about here and he just gets on with it,I like dealing with him,” he said,
But despite their good performances up to now, they have work to do.
“We’re working hard with Lewis to get him up there and whoever shows the most promise will get their chances,” Wane added.
