MICHAEL Maguire has showered Sam Tomkins with praise – and reckons he is edging close to the world’s greatest full-back.
The Warriors boss has previously compared Tomkins’ exciting running game to that of Australian superstar Billy Slater, the player regarded by many as the greatest in rugby league. But after witnessing some jaw-dropping displays from the golden-boy this year – most recently his electric hat-trick against Huddersfield last Saturday – he has gone one better, labelling him an “incredible talent” in the same bracket as the Melbourne No.1. And Maguire issued a chilling warning to the rest of Super League – he’s only going to get better and better.
Maguire said: “From my time in Melbourne, Billy was probably the best player I’ve worked with, he’s an incredible talent – and I think Sam’s exactly the same.”
