SHAUN Wane has revealed that half-back Matty Smith is a huge doubt for Sunday’s trip to Hull KR in the Challenge Cup.
The 25-year-old suffered a shoulder injury against former club Salford last week and has struggled since then.
Wane also revealed it will be “touch and go” whether or not Chris Tuson will return from his hamstring injury.
“Matty Smith is struggling,” bemoaned Wane. “It was quite a bad knock from the shoulder charge.
“I’ll assess him towards the end of the week. Chris Tuson isn’t far off.
“It’s touch and go whether he makes it or not, I doubt it myself but there might be a chance he comes back. We’ve had a few knocks and we might make a few changes.”
Wane met with officials from Latics this week to wish them luck for the FA Cup Final (see page 4) and admits he would love to go to Wembley this year too.
“The Challenge Cup final is one event I want to get to,” he said. “It was great to get there as an assistant but it’s not quite the same. If we can do what Wigan Athletic have done then it will be fantastic.”
