SHAUN Wane will give Sam Tomkins every chance to prove his fitness ahead of Wigan’s Challenge Cup quarter-final showdown with Widnes.
The Warriors are just 160 minutes away from a Wembley appearance next month.
And their hopes of reaching the final will be boosted if Man of Steel Tomkins is available for Monday’s home tie against Denis Betts’ Vikings.
Wane is already confident of welcoming back Lee Mossop and Darrell Goulding from brief injury lay-offs, while at the other end of the spectrum, captain Sean O’Loughlin has a slim possibility of figuring in the match.
Either way, he reckons getting his big guns back on board is “crucial” to their chances of success this season.
He said: “There’s a good chance on Lee playing this week. There’s a chance but not as great on Sam, and again on Lockers – I’d say it’s 90%-50%-30% in that order.
“Sam and Lockers are not far off and there is a chance, we’ll have a better idea later this week.
“To get them back at an important time of our season is crucial for us, and we need to take advantage of it. I want them coming back in when everyone is training well and performing well.”
Wane has recently welcomed back his two starting halfbacks, Blake Green and Matty Smith, and is confident they will soon find their best form.
“They had a long time out, they’re not playing as well at the moment as they were before their injuries, but it will come,” added the coach.
