SHAUN Wane admits it was a real coup for Wigan to secure the services of highly-rated prop Sam Hopkins from Leigh.

Hopkins became Wigan’s newest recruit when he put pen to paper on a two -year deal with an option for an extra year earlier this week.

Wigan beat off stiff competition from a host of clubs believed to include Warrington and St Helens to land Hopkins.

“There were a lot of clubs interested in Sam, and it was a great effort to get him here,” Wane said.

“It pleases me that so many other clubs wanted him and he chose to come here.

“I know how much hard work was done behind the scenes to get him here – people like Kris Radlinski – and it’s nice when it pays off.

“The things I’ve seen from Sam leads me to believe he’ll fit into our system really well.

“I watched him play a few games both last year and this year and he really stood out.”

Meanwhile, Warriors fans can still purchase both match tickets and coach travel from the DW Stadium today between 9am to 5pm, tomorrow from 9am to 12pm and on Monday until 5pm.
