JOE Burgess may be taken out of the firing line this Friday night.

Shaun Wane yesterday admitted he was deliberating about whether to play the misfiring winger against Castleford.

Burgess – bound for the NRL in 2016 – has scored tries in his last two games but also made costly errors in matches against Hull KR and Brisbane.

Wane said: “I’ll have a look at Budgies’s game, have a chat with him towards the end of the week.

“Whether he plays or not, I’ll decide then.”

Fans may get an idea later today which way he decides to go when Wane names his provisional 19-man squad, which he predicted would not include prop Ryan Sutton.

The 19-year-old has made a strong start to the season but Wane wants to expose him to Super League action sensibly.

“I may give him a rest,” he said. “He was sick at Hull KR, he probably shouldn’t have played (but) Ryan’s going to be a great player as he matures, if he keeps going as he’s going.”

Sutton’s place could go to prop Dom Crosby if he recovers from injury. Dan Sarginson is also set to return from a one-game absence through injury while Matty Bowen should replace Ryan Hampshire at full-back, having been rested for the trip to Hull KR.

If Burgess misses out, his place is likely to go to Dom Manfredi.

Castleford’s Scott Moore will miss Friday’s game with a one-match ban for a Grade B dangerous contact against St Helens last weekend.
