WARRIORS will take on Leeds when the Super League heads to Newcastle next May.
The six Magic Weekend fixtures were confirmed last night, with the Warriors headlining the opening day’s action on Saturday May 30.
It will be the third time in succession Shaun Wane’s men have tackled the Rhinos in the annual weekend of on-the-road fixtures.
Scheduled building work at the Etihad prompted the RFL to take the Magic Weekend to the north east.
The reduction of teams in Super League from 14 to 12 means there will be one less game this year.
Salford’s match against Widnes kicks off Saturday’s action at 2.30pm, followed by the Hull derby at 4.45pm ahead of Wigan’s meeting with the Challenge Cup winners.
Catalans Dragons and Huddersfield Giants will get Sunday’s action underway at 1pm - the first time the teams have met at Magic Weekend.
Defending champions St Helens face local rivals Warrington Wolves at 3.15pm – surprisingly not the headlining game – before a West Yorkshire battle between Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats (5.30pm).
Super League general manager Blake Solly said: “Magic Weekend is long established as one of the sport’s most popular events.
“From the uniformly positive feedback we have received since announcing that it was heading to St James’ Park, it’s clear that Magic Weekend 2015 will be very special indeed.
“As a top destination city with fantastic travel links and a wide range of accommodation options, Newcastle is an ideal venue for this unique sporting occasion.”
The Magic Weekend - a full round of fixtures at one venue - was launched in 2007 and has previously taken in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Manchester.
As well as their games against Leeds in the last two years – both victories – Wigan have also faced St Helens five times and Huddersfield once.
