WIGAN have confirmed the signing of Wakefield’s Taulima Tautai.
As first revealed in this week’s Wigan Observer, the 26-year-old will land at the DW Stadium for the 2015 season on a three-year deal.
With 72 games’ worth of NRL experience with Parramatta and Cronulla under his belt, the blockbusting forward attracted interest from several other clubs, including from the NRL.
Warriors coach Shaun Wane said: “I’m a big fan – he’s going to be a good asset.
“He runs hard, hits hard and suits our system.”
The Warriors coach feels the capture of Tautai will go some way to adding beef to the pack – a need which the coach says was exposed during Wigan’s World Club Challenge defeat to Sydney Roosters in February.
“We learned in Sydney what sort of team we want to start recruiting,” Wane acknowledged.
“He’s a big guy but very dynamic and without a doubt will be a fans’ favourite.
“He’s been in some good systems but he’ll be in for a shock when he comes here because it will be different to anywhere else he has been.
“He had a lot of offers from other people but he wants to come to where it’s the toughest.
“That shows me he has desire and he wants to win things.”
In a statement posted on his official Twitter account, Tautai said: “I am very impressed with Wigan and feel that this is the correct step forward for me in my life and career.”
Captain Sean O’Loughlin will return to the Warriors line-up for tonight’s clash with Huddersfield Giants.
Looking to the game Wane said: “It’s all about attitude and wanting to win more than the other team, and we’ve had that this past few weeks.”
Warriors Under-19s enjoyed a 68-16 win over Bradford Bulls at Orrell on Tuesday night.
