WIGAN Warriors have confirmed the signing of centre or second row forward Anthony Gelling.
New Zealand born Gelling is a 21 year old, 6ft 5ins, 16-stone Cook Islands International who joins the Challenge Cup Winners from the Auckland Vulcans Club who play in the New South Wales Cup, having previously played for Australian Club Sydney Roosters.
Anthony has now received a work permit allowing him to join the Warriors and landed in the UK on Thursday. He will join up with his new team mates today as they fly out to Florida for their pre-season training camp and will wear Squad Number 24.
Speaking about the signing Head Coach Shaun Wane said: “Anthony comes highly recommended to us by Kevin Iro and Dean Bell in New Zealand and having studied his career in detail I am sure he has all of the right attributes to make a massive impact on the Super League competition.”
On arrival in Manchester Anthony Gelling said: “I am delighted to be here and am really looking forward to getting straight into training with my new team mates.
“It will be an honour to play for the world-famous Wigan Club and I’ve already heard about how passionate the Warriors supporters are.
“I know the squad is packed full of talent so I will have to work hard to earn the opportunity to show the coaching staff and fans exactly what I can offer.”
