WARRIORS’ friendly against Workington Town, due to take place at Derwent Park this afternoon has fallen victim to a waterlogged pitch.
The fixture, which was also Paul Prescott’s testimonial match, was set to be a chance for Shaun Wane to field a strong side against the Cumbrian outfit ahead of the start of the Super League campaign which begins on February 7 against Huddersfield Giants at the DW Stadium.
New recruits Tony Clubb and Eddy Pettybourne were in line to make their debuts and Jordan James, who revealed he is to add to his playing stint at the club seven years ago by lacing up his boots for 2014, was also set to feature.
At midday, the Wigan Warriors official Twitter account posted: “Everything is being done ahead of the 3pm K/Off to ensure the game goes ahead! Rain has currently stopped!”
But shortly after it was revealed the game has been called off.
Further information for fans who have purchased tickets is expected soon.
