Shaw's a world beater!
Strongman Ian Shaw has powered his way to a world record!
The 32-year-old, of Orrell, grabbed his honour after lifting a staggering deadlift of 291kg – the equivalent of picking up three 15st men!
That involved lifting the bar from the floor to waist height and holding it for three seconds.
His incredible feat was achieved at a British Drug Free Powerlifting Association's British Championships in Coventry.
The BDFPA website shows the world records for single lifts – and Shaw's name is now proudly among other strongmen from around the globe. Delighted Shaw said: "I'm made up.
"I knew it was going to be a world record – so I went for it.
"I actually managed 295kg in training, so I knew I was up to it when the competition came around.
"The record had stood for seven years."
The lift – the equivalent of 640lb – was in the Under-90s category.
"I weighed 86.5kg at the time," added Shaw. "I also did 130kg benchpress and a 230kg squat.
"The BDFPA are regulated and everyone who competes is drug tested."
Shaw trained hard for the event at Catt's Gym in Orrell.
