Antolin Alcaraz

Antolin Alcaraz

ROBERTO Martinez says Antolin Alcaraz will bring “incredible experience and real know-how” to Wigan Athletic’s survival bid.

The Paraguayan made his long-awaited return at Reading, six months after his last appearance in a Latics shirt.

A groin injury picked up on international duty robbed Latics of the services of the World Cup star for two-thirds of the campaign.

But he is back for the run-in, with Latics again leaving themselves with plenty to do to secure a ninth season of top-flight football.

Earlier this week, skipper Gary Caldwell highlighted Alcaraz’s “huge influence” in last season’s Great Escape.

And Martinez admits the presence of Alcaraz will give Latics a massive boost ahead of the final 11 games.

“To have Antolin coming for the last 10 minutes was possibly the biggest positive from a fantastic day at Reading,” Martinez told the Evening Post.

“To see him just out there on the pitch, being himself and helping the team was great. We have really missed him.

“Antolin brings incredible experience and a real know-how of the Premier League and Wigan Athletic.

“He is an out and out defender, and you want players like him fit and competing for his place.

“It was a great sight to see him back and for the crowd we took down there to be there for it.”

Meanwhile, Latics have released ticket details for the FA Cup quarter-final tie at Everton on Saturday, March 9 (12.45pm).

Tickets in the Lower Bullens part of Goodison Park are priced £32 adults, £16 Under-16s and £21 OAPs.

Tickets in the Paddock are priced at £35 adults, £17.50 under-16s and £21.75 OAPS.

Season-ticket holders eligible for a £5 discount on each price bracket if purchased in advance. Tickets were due to go on sale to season ticket holders this morning.

Any unsold tickets will then be released to those with booking history next Tuesday before going on general sale next Friday.
